Review of Beyond The Wall: Exploring George R.R. Martin’s A Song of Ice and Fire

Posted on April 19, 2012July 25, 2012 by Steveysham

In the past decade or so, mainstream fiction has had many an academic derisively tutting and shaking their heads. As the Rowlings, the Browns, and the Meyers arrived, and grabbed the attention…

Oops! Our Bad!

Posted on March 2, 2010March 3, 2010 by Pearce

For the benefit of humanity, I had a research chemist put together a “how-to” manual for secret government programs that unleash diseases on their own populations because they apparently hire complete idiots. I call it “Biowarfare Oopsies for Dummies.”

Daybreakers

I was excited about this film the moment the trailer began. When I saw that Sam Neill was one of the actors, I was bouncing up and down in my seat. I…

Retro Review – A Boy & His Dog (1975)

Posted on January 16, 2010January 16, 2010 by Sam Kurd

I love a good post-apocalyptic tale. Whenever I see a blighted wasteland, burnt out cars and gangs of scavengers shooting at each other in the decimated crumbling ruins of civilisation I know…

The Final Destination – Are We There Yet?

Posted on January 16, 2010January 16, 2010 by Pearce

Posted on January 3, 2010January 3, 2010 by Chris McQuillan

As we arrive in 2010, the last decade has seen many shows rise and fall in the world of televisual fame.  It’s been ten years where we’ve swung between sci-fi overdose and…

Doctor Who: November 2009 Special: The Waters of Mars Review

Posted on November 15, 2009January 2, 2010 by Gateway

I think I just witnessed a Timelord break down.

I’ll tackle the story beats first.

Perfect Ten arrives on Mars, wanderlust still in full flow and he is, once again, companionless.

It doesn’t take long before he encounters a small group of human colonists living on the planet in regulated facilities and bio-domes. Their reaction is, to put it mildly, suspicious. And the commander of the base, Captain Adelaide Brooke, will not be taken lightly.

Battlestar Galactica: The Plan – Review

Posted on October 31, 2009January 2, 2010 by Chris McQuillan

In brief: Confused, unspectacular, and did we really need it? In detail: Dean Stockwell must have been chuffed when he first sat down to read the script for The Plan. Battlestar Galactica:…

In Brief:  A few good ideas that were utterly destroyed, albeit with decent camera-work. In Detail:  Gerard Butler ““ a man whom I approach with a sense of curiosity and trepidation ““…

District 9 Review

Posted on September 5, 2009September 5, 2009 by Chris McQuillan

In Brief: Brilliantly fascinating, if flawed. In Detail: Most of what I’ve seen written about District 9 is about its analogous resemblance to the struggles of apartheid. It’s been explored in depth,…

Doctor Who: Easter Special 2009: Planet of the Dead

Posted on April 12, 2009April 12, 2009 by Gateway

image In brief: Fun!

In-depth:

One down.

Three more to go.

Let’s get serious people!

To elaborate – this is it folks. Strap yourselves in for this adventure because it’s fun, tongue in cheek and a fast, furious ride. If you’ve read any interviews you’ll know that this is probably what RTD might call his last chance for a ‘light hearted’ romp in the Whoniverse.
