Taken Director On-Board for Dune

Posted on January 6, 2010January 6, 2010 by Chris McQuillan

Pierre Morel ““ director of Liam Neeson action movie Taken ““ has grabbed the reigns of the next Dune movie.

Morel is now said to be rewriting the new script for the film, which will presumably follow the Paul Atreides and the dynastic conflict between Houses Atreides and Harkonnen on desert planet Arrakis, the only source of the universe’s most valuable mineral: spice.

The franchise is still enormously popular, with Sci-Fi’s production of Children of Dune some seven years ago proving popular and featuring Scottish actor James McAvoy before his career really took off.

This will, however, be the first cinematic adaptation of Frank Herbert’s classic novel since David Lynch’s 1984 effort.

No sign yet of a concrete release date.
