Angel, X-Files and Firefly veteran Tim Minear is to take the helm behind Sci-Fi Channel’s latest franchise revival ““ a new rendition of Alien Nation.

As per the original, the show centres around a cop and his alien detective partner, set against the backdrop of a story about the wider integration of this alien race into Earth society.

"It’s absolute perfect timing for this type of show," said Chris Carlisle of Fox 21 (the alternative production arm of 20th Century FOX TV). "They’re looking for more grounded sci-fi and close-ended episodes, and at the heart of ‘Alien Nation,’ it’s a cop movie. It’s grounded. And it has a tremendous amount of dramatic possibilities and humor."

Sci-Fi Channel rebrands itself next week to SyFy.

Sci-Fi Heaven interviewed the creator the last incarnation of Alien Nation, Kenneth Johnson, in December 2006.  That interview can be heard here.
