According to Variety, Fox and Warner might tie for the winners of this year’s box office, but upon closer analysis, this is hardly brilliant news.
As our industry source stated, “Estimated Box Office for 2005 will be around 8.75 Billion $, compared to 9.2 Billion £ in 2004. But if we take in account that ticket prices rose again this year, the loss in actual admissions is significantly higher, from 1.48 Bilion in 2004 to 1.32 Billion this year, which marks a drop of 11%.”
They went on to add, “Also of interest is the fact that 2005 saw the release of 527 movies, which is 20 moe than 2004. So, as Variety states: The studios made less money with more movies.”
Whether it is the hectic modern lifestyle getting worse, or a decline in movie quality – the film industry is slipping fast.
Its a shame they still blame downloaders and piracy and not the $30 cokes and $15 bags of popcorn. I dont go to the movies near as much as i normally would not because of ticket prizes but the drinks and popcorn that put you in the poor house.
