In a somewhat bizarre twist to the Stargate-intro story, Sci-Fi Channel announced that the full-length intro sequence would indeed return to broadcasts in the second half of SG-1’s ninth season, and the second half of Atlantis’s second.
The intros of both shows were cut to a mere 10-seconds at in July to allow for more advertising space. Canada had been airing the show with the full credits anyway, but now it seems these will also be shown in the US.
Why the change? Who knows, it doesn’t seem to make an awful lot of sense really. Perhaps Sci-Fi couldn’t get enough advertisements to fill the slots, but that doesn’t really seem feasible if the demand was so great that they cut the sequence to ten seconds in the first place.
Excellent. Those new sequences annoyed the hell out of me.
I believe it may have been fan reaction. There was a *huge* fan backlash when it was announced originally, and then after the first couple of eps aired, it spurred up again. The creators hated them as well.
evidently the extra time was “supposed” to go to the show itself.
meh. Like that was ever gonna happen – a tv channel voluntarily giving up what could be advertising space!
The new sequence is much improved from Season one, the graphics and whole concept of the intro to Atlantis is very good. I agree with Jafana, there was so much bad feeling around regarding the shortened sequence, they actually made a spoof out of the credits Joe M. actually commented about it in one of his blogs. Thankfully though, for once, the fans got what they wanted. A great intro to a great soundtrack, both with Atlantis and SG1.
